Travel
Indian adventures.
Talks are based on trips to northern and southern India.
In northern India I cover the "Golden Triangle" including visits to the cities and World Heritage sites of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, also covering the Ranthambhore Tiger reserve and its wildlife including the fabled tigers.
In southern India I cover cities of Mysore and Cochin plus the lush countryside of Karnataka and Kerala.
Journey across the Continent
in 2017 my wife and I cruised from Amsterdam to the Black Sea along the great river arteries of Europe. In just three weeks we traveled up the Rhine and main, across the Main and Danube Canal and down the Danube to the sea.
This talks looks at the overall experience and concentrates on the major landmarks along the way from the cities of Amsterdam, Cologne, Budapest and Belgrade to towns such as Rudesheim, Mohacs and Tulcea plus major landmarks like the Lorelei and the Iron Gates.
Costa Rica from sea to sea
A short trip in Costa Rica in 2019 saw me travelling the country from Capital City, San Jose, to the jungles of the Atlantic Coast, into the mountains for volcanos and cloud forest before a final stay on the Pacific Coast.
The talk includes birds and wildlife, the wonders of the cloud forest and its humming birds and finally the lush vegetation and mangroves of the Pacific Coast
The Tour du Mont Blanc
For a significant birthday I gave myself the present of walking the Tour du Mont Blanc through the Alps of France, Italy and Switzerland.
This multi-day walk around the fabled mountain takes in the fantastic scenery of the area and follows the route through the high passes and deep valleys on a nine day walk.
Telling a story
Going beyond single images enables us to create a body of work that can tell a story. In this talk I consider the idea of "found" and "created" stories. I cover the processes involved in creating and developing stories to create statements about everyday life that satisfy our curiosity and enable us to communicate the stories to others on-line, as prints, talks or bound up in a book.
Put it in a book
Are the photos you'd love to share sitting on your hard drive unseen? For over a decade I have been creating books from my images and I've also collaborated with others to create records of significant events or bodies of work. Books are easy to show around and much cheaper than having prints made and creating an album.
In this talk I'll take you through the process of creating book from idea to completion. I discuss publishers and printers to help you to create your own collection of images in a satisfying medium.
